Bay Area FasTrak is a toll collection system, used in Bay Area, San Francisco. It is an electronic system and is used throughout the state. Besides this system, two other toll collection systems are used in the state; these are California Freeway and Expressway System. All the toll collection systems are operated by the state government.
Bay Area FasTrak Operations
Bay Area FasTrak is available on all the roads and bridges in the area. It helps in solving the traffic congestion problem in the area. Users have to deposit money in their FasTrak account and when they use FasTrak System, required amount is deducted from their account. There are no annual fees to maintain FasTrak account. Balanced amount is refunded to the users; in case, they want to close their account. Bay Area Fastrak are designed in such a way that cars have no need to stop at every toll booth. FasTrak System is also used at San Francisco International Airport.
Bay Area FasTrak History
First FasTrak system was launched in
Orange County in 1993. The System operates under the US Department of Transportation. The government gives contract to private agencies to handle these systems. All Private agencies have to follow the specifications according to 'Senate Bill 1523', passed in 1990.
