Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand was established in 1948 from donations made by the Birla Education Trust, and inaugurated by Lord Mountbatten, then the Governor General of India on 14th June 1948. The college rose to prominence under the stewardship of Prof. Junarkar and Prof. K.M. Dholakia. It is one of the few colleges in India that provides education using the credit system. The first engineering college in the State has so far awarded degrees to over sixteen thousand graduates. It is a grant aided engineering institution managed by Charutar Vidya Mandal.
The infrastructure of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand was generously designed for three year degree programme with an intake of 150 students every year. The main building (now known as A Block) had class rooms and laboratories. Workshops and heat engine laboratory, drawing hall, hydraulics laboratory and boiler house were separately constructed. Shri Gordhanbhai I Patel of M/s Gordhandas Desai & Co was authorized to proceed to Europe and UK to purchase equipment for workshops, laboratories and surveying. The college thus started with the best of the equipments. Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand provides Bachelor Degree, Master Degree and Doctoral program to the students.
Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand is located at Vallabh Vidyanagar, Anand, Gujarat. A spacious hall on the south end of the ground floor of the main building which at one time housed Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand library was converted in 1989 into a modern – Auditorium with a capacity of 400 seates and complete with acoustical treatment, light, sound and projection facilities. The Auditorium is beautifully carpeted and curtained and is rated todays as one of the best Auditorium on Vallabh Vidyanagar campus.
For the lodging facility of the students Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand has four boys' hostels with 72 three seater rooms each and one ladies hostel with more than 102 two seater rooms. The boy’s hostels are named Girnar, Vindhya (after two mountain ranges of India with mythological importance) and The New Hostel (A & B block). The ladies hostel is called The Square Hostel. The proximity of the hostels with the college is a great virtue in its own. A well equipped gymnasium is at the students' service at BVM.
Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand has an exquisite computer center. With around 50 computers interconnected in a LAN system on Windows NT/Novel NetWare environment, a UNIX network and 10 standalone PCs with Windows NT operating system, BVM provides all the facilities of the modern age. It provides the e-mail and internet facilities to the students at nominal rates. The students of BVM can avail the facility of the University Health Center free of charge. All the basic medical requirements are fulfilled in the University Health Center.
Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand provides a very well developed workshop for the mechanical and production students. All the modern and latest machines and equipment are available in the workshop. Built with the whole hearted support of the BVM Alumni Association, the BVM auditorium is a fantastic piece of work. An excellent sound system and executive environment are the important features of BVM auditorium. It has a capacity of 300 people.
College eye is the cultural wing of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand. All the cultural activities and festivals of BVM are organized by college eye. A notice board maintained by the college eye reflects the aesthetic sense of BVM students. Most important activity of the college eye is the Vishvakarma magazine. This is a collection of all the art, literary works of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand students, published annually. Fundu is a great cultural and entertainment week celebrated by BVM students (through college eye). Everything is managed and organized by the students. This annual activity makes college life more enthusiastic and thrilling. Both teachers and students actively participate in this festival.
All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand students apart from their academic performance have also excelled in sports activities. A big playground and many other facilities support in these achievements. Tournaments are organized by Sardar Patel University every year. BVM students have a credit of being university football champions since last seven years. In each semester, Blood Donation Camp is organized by college students, which is supported by the college wholeheartedly.
The former students of Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College - Anand have always maintained interest in the welfare of their Alma Mater. The BVM Alumni Association has been quite active and has been providing incentive through scholarships, financial aids, cash prizes and awards of gold medals to outstanding students. The association has in the past rendered financial assistance towards purchase of the earliest computer system, providing drawing boards, purchase of laboratory equipment and providing book rack for the library. BVM alumni association has been the major contributors towards the Auditorium project costing around Rs. 2.5 lakhs in 1990.
