Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and on October 17, 2002, was given the status of National Institute of Technology by the Government of India under the control of Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi, India, in a bid to provide increased autonomy in decision-making.
Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ popularly known as NITJ-Jalandhar or NITJ, is a leading premier autonomous university in northern India. The Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar is one of the youngest among the twenty National Institutes of Technology of India.
Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ campus is wide spread over an area of 154 acres. It has many topographical features, various buildings of different nature with clean and wide roads surrounded by a green belt. The campus area has been broadly divided into different functional zones: (i) institution zone for teaching departments/centers/administration. (ii) residential zone for the faculty and staff. (iii) students’ hostel zone.
Being a technical institute, it is expected of Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ to deliver the expected results and maintain its reputed standards in academics. But, we also constantly strive for excellence in sports. Gymnasium is the facility for indoor sports such as badminton, table tennis etc.
The dispensary is the heart beat of the institute which provide Treatment for different diseases and also provide first aid to the injured ,and also arranges different awareness camp Like cardiac camp , BMD camp etc . Different updates are been circulated for prevention from the seasonal disease.
There are seven boys’ hostels and two girls’ hostels. The facilities of reading room, indoor games, etc. are available in each hostel. Internet facility is provided in most of the hostels. Other facilities like gysers, water purifiers, water coolers and air coolers are provided in all the hostels.
The campus has a Post Office. Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ campus comes under a separate postal zone and it is a postal delivery office. The post office is located in the dispensary building and works on all weekdays from 9.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. and from 9.00 A.M. to 2.00 P.M. on Saturdays.

Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology-NITJ library is housed in a three storied building situated in the midst of all departments and hostels and is easily accessible to all/everyone in the campus. The total carpet area of Library is 1540 sq.feet. All students, faculty members and staff of the institute are entitled to make use of the library facilities. Industrial establishments/corporate houses can also avail of the library services on taking institutional/ corporate membership of the library. Library consultation facilities are also available to faculty and students of outside institutes/organization on request.
Other amenities on the campus include a guest house, a community centre, shopping centre, banks, sports complex, playgrounds, new Tennis courts, Basketball courts, Volleyball courts, open air theatre, central seminar hall and night canteen etc.

All departments offer courses to the students of the Institute at both UG and PG levels and are actively involved in research in their specific fields: Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Bio-Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Humanities and Management, Industrial and Production Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Textile Technology.
