GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam was established in the year 1997 by GMR Varalakshmi Foundation – the corporate social responsibility arm of GMR Group offers aspiring engineers high quality technical education. GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam is located in the industrial town of Rajam, Srikakulam district. The campus is about 100 kms north-west of Visakhapatnam. Extremely well-connected to Visakhapatnam, Vizianagram and Srikakulam, the Institute is just 18 kms from the nearest railway station at Chipurpalle on the Chennai-Howrah line. The lush green college campus spreads across 117 acres.

The Central Library along with seven departmental libraries collectively support the teaching, research and extension programmes of GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam. All students, faculty members and employees of the Institute are entitled to make use of the library facilities on taking library membership. The central library has subscription to online journals of ASME, IEL & ASCE through INDEST – AICTE Consortium and DELNET. Library functioning in all sections is computerised through LIBSYS and connected on LAN. The Library uses LIBSYS Software Package, which is an integrated multi-user Library Management System that supports all in-house operations of the Library.
The LIBSYS consists of modules on Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serials, Article Indexing and OPAC. Retrospective conversion of bibliographic records has been completed and more than 39877 bibliographic records of books available in the library can now be accessed through the LIBSYS OPAC & WEB OPAC. GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam Digital Library having 20 Computers connected on LAN and allows browsing the Internet for Academic Purpose. The Library has ASME, IEL, ASCE, online subscription and Membership in Development Library Network (DELNET), through which one can access specialized bibliographic database of books, serials and non-book materials. The Digital Library also has 1241 general educational CDs and 475 SONET CDs.
GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam hostels were built in 1998. Providing separate accommodation for men and women, the present strength of the residential community is 1000 +. The two hostels are headed by the Administrative Officer whose keen observation and guidance enables the staff to discharge their duties effectively, while continuously maintaining discipline among the residents. The women's hostel has two blocks "Nagavali" and "Vamsadhara" with a capacity to accommodate 444 students. The men's hostel has three blocks "Vindhya", "Satpura" and "Aravali" with a capacity to accommodate 604 students. In the present global technical scenario, the need to communicate effectively in English has become a necessity than a privilege. It has been observed that most engineers and technologists lack effective communication skills despite possessing sound technological knowledge. To cater to the needs of the engineering students, GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam has set up an advanced Language Lab based on the recommendations of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University.
GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam has a state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 264. Well designed acoustics, a 17000 W audio system, imported multimedia projector, special stage lighting, computerised AC system are just some of its hi-tech features. Providing hygienic and nutritious meals, two times a day. Well-ventilated and modern dining halls are provided for both the hostels. A resident F&B Manager is appointed to monitor and optimise the nutritional levels in food served. Hostels are provided with round-the-clock security all through the year. Both hostels are provided with TV's, board games, newspapers, journals, etc. for indoor entertainment. Separate shuttle courts are also provided in the hostel complex. Hostelers are taken out for a movie or shopping, once a month. Students are encouraged to attend Yoga classes to help them balance work and recreation, mind and body. A computer block with internet facility is provided in the women's hostel for computer-related work after college hours.
GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam offers students National Cadet Corps or NCC training on campus. Classes are usually held on Sunday mornings. The management has arranged an Andhra Bank ATM facility on campus for the convenience of students and faculty. A doctor and health assistant offer their services to both hostels, everyday. A bakery facility is provided within each hostel to enable students to buy breads, seasonal fruits, juices, etc. A general store stocks all essential items for students on a no-profit, no-loss basis. Canteen facility is provided for day scholars with healthy and tasty foods at reasonable rates. We are having 6MBPS dedicated Internet bandwidth from SIFY & BSNL through BSNL leased lines to provide Internet facility to all the students and staff members of GMRIT. Wireless networking facility is also provided within the campus to connect mobile users. College offers different kind of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
GMR Institute of Technology – GMRIT Srikakulam Training and Placement Cell has a critical role to play in networking graduating students with industry. It prepares students for the process of recruitment and simultaneously creates awareness among companies about the recruitment opportunities at GMRIT.
