Glidden Paint company is one of the largest paint manufacturers in North America. Its products are of two types professional and consumer paints. The Glidden Paint company is subsidiary of Pittsburgh Plate Glass (PPG) industries. Glidden was purchased by British, Imperial Chemical Industries in 1986. Imperial Chemical Industries was further acquired by Dutch, AkzoNobel in 2008. Pittsburgh Plate Glass company created an agreement to acquire Glidden from AkzoNobel. The deal settles in $1.05 billion on December 14, 2012. This makes the
PPG the second largest paint manufacturer in North American after the Sherwin-Williams. The Glidden headquarter is located at Strongsville, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. Francis Harrington Glidden, started his journey in 1875 of making varnishes for furniture, pianos, carriages, and wagons. Francis Harrington Glidden, Levi Brackett and Thomas Bolles are also the founders. With their joint effort it expanded greatly, opening 17 acres of varnish factory in 1908.
