Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU was established at Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature No. 16 of 2005 notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005 and it started functioning w.e.f. April 21, 2006 for promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the disease(s) through integrated teaching, research and extension programme(s).
The mission of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU is to produce Veterinary graduates, scientists and extension workers for promoting better livestock health, by prevention of disease, increasing production and reproduction of livestock, thus improving the quality of rural life in Punjab.
The Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU was established with the goals and objectives such as to provide adequate supply of trained veterinary professionals capable of handling livestock health and production aspects including Master’s and Doctorate level specialists according to the needs of the State Government and allied agencies, to foster faculty development by providing opportunities to participate in appropriate training programmes, conferences, workshops, seminars, symposia etc. and avail other opportunities in exchange programmes.
At present, the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU has Veterinary College Complex, Animal Disease Research Centre,Computer Centre. The college has a well equipped Veterinary Teaching Hospital to cater the demands of large and small animal health and provide specialized treatment for the referred livestock patients and also provide clinical training to the students. In addition the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU also has dairy and poultry farms which provide adequate facilities for teaching and research.
A Book Bank of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU of Veterinary Science was established in August 1986 to provide textbooks to the students by purchasing their multiple copies and is located in the main Veterinary College complex. Book Bank has now more than 2700 textbooks in various subjects of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry. Books are purchased out of the grant received from Director Social Welfare, Punjab and ICAR, New Delhi under the scheme “Strengthening of Book Banks in Agricultural Universities”.
The Placement cell has been inaugurated by the Worthy Vice-Chancellor Sh. D. S. Bains, I.A.S, on dated 5th December 2006. The placement cell is located at Room No:43, Second Floor, Animal Science Complex, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU, Ludhiana-141004.
The placement cell of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU , Ludhiana will act as a liaison unit between the interests of the students and the recruiting agencies. The role of placement cell starts as early as organizing the resume of the students and providing the technical guidance according to their interest and talent of the student to choose the area of work.
The veterinary college of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University-GADVASU has international reputation and the students of this college have carved out a niche for themselves in India and abroad. The Placement Cell will also provide guidance to students for skill improvement by organizing the trainings for personality development, communication skill, mock group discussions etc. as well as training for competitive examinations for fellowships/ civil services.
