Indian Institute of Technology-IIT Kanpur was established in the year 1960 following which The Parliament of India passed the Act of Institutes of Technology in 1961. This Act declared all the IITs as “Institutions of National Importance”. As a result, this Act gave complete independence to the IITs. When the keystone of the IIT system was laid, it was supposed that taking assistance from the industrially developed nations might be useful in achieving the position of a top-notch technical institute.

IIT Kanpur had a massive alliance with USA thanks to a specially made programme- KIAP (Kanpur Indo American Programme) which is said to be the biggest ever academic helping programme. It aims to spread excellent education among the Engineering Colleges of India with the help of Videos and Web-based learning material for their popular disciplines.
MHRD wants to improve the standard of Engineering Education in various colleges where well-trained faculty members unavailable. But, there is a risk involved. Where MHRD wants to uplift the standard of colleges they need to be sure that the programmes are accepted by the users. Major players in this venture are the seven IITs and IISc Bangalore. With the help of TV Channel, Eklavya, the courses prepared at
