Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur is also known as Indira Gandhi Agricultural University - IGAU Raipur was established in 1987 with the motto to at least double the crop yields in the region with appropriate increase in livestock husbandry, fishery and agro-forestry. Since its inception, the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur has produced quality manpower for the nation providing relevant technological solutions in agriculture and allied fields.
Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur is located at Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state. It is a renowned university for providing education and training in agricultural sciences and allied disciplines at undergraduate and postgraduate level. It was established in 1987 with the idea to at least double the crop production in the region with appropriate increase in livestock husbandry, fishery and agro-forestry.
Prior to the establishment of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur, there were 3 colleges in Chhattisgarh ie. 1) College of Agriculture , Raipur , 2) College of Dairy Technology, Raipur and 3) College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Anjora, Durg. Later in 1996 the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering was established at Raipur.
Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur ‘Nehru Library’ it has more than 35,000 reference books, ST/SC book bank of approximately 1,000 books and about 10,000 back volumes of national and international research journals and periodicals and more than 6,000 reports and other publications. There are more than 1,000 P.G. and Ph.D. theses. Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur subscribes about 250 research oriented journals including 60 foreign journals. The library is equipped with latest communication media and information technologies like CD ROM data base references of various agencies and is well connected through internet via Local Area Network(LAN). ICAR has recognized Nehru Library as Regional Library of the Central India. The students and staff can access literature from all corners of the world through this library.
Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur offers module-based courses in the areas of agriculture and allied sciences. It promotes direct and indirect education, technological support to the public in general and farmers. The curriculum has been planned in such a way that it improves agriculture productivity and the economic situation of the rural people.
Tapping commercial potential of the agriculture sector is the aim of the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya - IGKV Raipur. Workshops are regularly organized by the university to promote awareness about the use of advance techniques in the field of agriculture. Extension programme of the university has played commendable role in promoting agriculture. Directorate of Research Services looks after research work in all agricultural fields.
