The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur was founded in the year 1954 by late Mr. S.P.Luiz, F. I. C.E, Ex. MLA. This Institution is approved and recognized by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India vide DGCA letter No. 5 - 20- 11/A1(2). This college is imparting Ab- initio training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering to cover the basic Licence for Airframe and Aero engines.
The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur is situated at Chalakudy in Trichur District of Kerala. Southern College of EngineeringThe campus is ideally located in a 15 acre estate by the banks of the Chalakudy river about a kilometer from the nearest Railway station and Bus stand. The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur is housed in a spacious building containing the classrooms and administrative office, which is adjacent to a larger hangar, where a variety of aircraft used for the training are positioned. There are ample facilities for sports like football, cricket, etc. for the students.
The training programme is a combination of Airframe, Aero Engine including Jet engine, electrical, instrument, electronics and Computers and Avionics and provides the students with a equal theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as the ability to maintain the Aircraft, engines and related equipments and systems of an Aircraft in Airworthy condition .
The practical facilities includes Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur Classroom even Aircraft, thirteen Aero engines and four Jet engines and number of Mock ups and cross sections and Aircraft laboratory. There is a well-stocked library which is being replenished constantly with advanced and latest technical books on various subjects for the reference. Hostel facilities for boys and girls is also available.The faculty consists of highly qualified and experienced professionals headed by the Chief Instructor who is approved and appointed by the DGCA.
The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur has highly qualified and experienced faculty. Eminent engineers with valid AME Licence A & C covering Heavy Aircraft, Jet Engines, Helicopters and Basic Licence Holders with Heavy Aircraft, Light Aircraft, Jet Engines, Electrical System and Instrument system ensure that the students are educated in the complete field of aircraft maintenance.
The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur has all the necessary infrastructure and facilities for the conduct of the AME course including General engineering workshop, Class rooms, Labs, Special workshops and aircraft Hangar. It has One Learjet Aircraft (Heavy, Pressurised) One Cessna 152, Two HT-2, One lark and Two Pushpak Aircraft. Learjet, Cessna – 152 and HT-2 Aircraft are live with all systems and engines functional. There are Thirteen Piston engines and Four Jet engines.
The Southern College of Engineering - Thrissur functions under the complete control of the DGCA for all matters of AME training. Govt. regulations and requirements as per CAR section 2, Series F part VIII and Rule 133B and Rule 61 of aircraft Rules 1937 are the guiding factors for the conduct of the AME course. The scope of approval by DGCA is Ab- initio training in the field of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering to cover Basic Licence for Light Aeroplane, Piston engine and Jet engine in the mechanical stream.
