Beijing University of Technology – BJUT Beijing (formerly known as Beijing Polytechnic University) was founded in 1960. It is a key university under the administration of the Beijing municipal government, which has established a multi-disciplinary academic structure. The structure offers various programs and also involves in diversified academic research in the fields of science, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts and law. The campus of the university occupies an area of more than 80 hectares and built floor area totaling about 700,000 square meters. Centering around such areas as electronic information, bioengineering and new medicine, optical-mechanical-electronic integration, new materials, environmental protection and resources, urban construction and administration and the requirement of industries, the Beijing University of Technology – BJUT Beijing has substantially adjusted and optimized its academic structure and established 16 colleges. Beijing University of Technology – BJUT Beijing main library is a modern complex occupying a floor area of more than 20,000 square meters. The library houses about 700,000 printed materials, 60,000 e-books, more than 40 kinds of database resources, forming a documentation resource system which meets the demands of teaching and research. The library also cooperates with the Capital Library of Beijing and the Information Center of the Chinese Academy of Science, providing professional service to the student and faculty.

It has 3 State Key Disciplines – Optics Structural Engineering and Material Sciences respectively, 14 Beijing Key disciplines, 18 disciplines receiving privileged support from Beijing municipality, 2 key labs of Ministry of Education- Key Lab of New Functional Materials and Key Lab of Enhanced Heat Transfer and Energy Conservation respectively, 3 Province-MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) Co-Key Labs, 13 key labs or research bases of Beijing municipality. In addition, the Beijing University of Technology – BJUT Beijing is home to the National Research Center of Precision and Sup precision Process Engineering, National Center of Laser Processing, Sino-German Center of Laser Technology, Engineering Research Center of Digital Community, Engineering Center of Advanced Manufacture Technology on Automobile Components, Ministry of Education.
