Tamilnadu Dr.MGR Medical University, C L Baid Metha College of Pharmacy needs for qualified pharmacists in the present context made the Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists to take an important decision on the Ist December 1979 to establish a College of Pharmacy in Chennai. The entire pharmaceutical trade in Tamil Nadu rose to the occasion to provide their co-operation. The college is also approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi and Pharmacy Council of India.
C L Baid Metha College of Pharmacy constant efforts taken by the Educational Trust brought the idea into fruition within a short span of time and the College of Pharmacy was inaugurated on 13th July 1980 by the then Minister of Health Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. H.V. Hande and Dr. C.L. Metha. The college began with full fledged infrastructure on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, Thorapakkam, Chennai.
C L Baid Metha College of Pharmacy continues with well laid out separate facilities with mess for boys and girls separately. Rotract Club works under the guidance of Rotary Club of East Annamalaipuram. Different activities are planned like medical camp, RYLA camp (Rotaract Youth Leadership Award), Blood donation camp etc.
C L Baid Metha College of Pharmacy has 69,000 sq.ft of built up space in extensive ten acres of land houses the college and hostel. 22 Laboratories are available with special labs for I & II year PG courses. Animal house as per CPCSEA norms are also there. Spacious class rooms are equipped with OHP. The Seminar room has an audiovisual facility like LCD, OHP. There is a well-stocked Library with national and international journals and reference books.
The entire research activity of the foundation is managed by experienced faculty members under the leadership of The Director, Prof. Dr. S. Venkataraman. The foundation offers facilities for pharmacological screening of new synthetic molecules, single and polyherbal formulations. The college conducts periodical Hands-on-Training programmes to technicians working in Medical, Pharmacy, ISM Colleges, Analytical and Q.C. departments. Project work for M.Pharm Life Science (M.Sc., B.Tech & M.Tech) Biotechnology is always guided and supervised by experienced faculty in different field of specialization.
The Foundation also undertakes in house projects related to development of new formulations, drug delivery systems in both allopathic and herbal medicine segments. Short-term course is also offered by the Research Foundation for products managers/executives in Pharma industry, on technical writing of brochures, manuals, leave behind literature, visual aid albums etc.
