Monash University - Berwick is also home to the Monash Tourism Research Unit. It is situated in the City of Casey, one of Australia's fastest growing areas and approximately 2000 students attend. Monash University - Berwick to be extended to fill the abundance of land surrounding the current buildings. A student accommodation building was completed in 2006 to stabilise the demand generated by both local and the vast number of international students.
The Monash University - Berwick is situated next to the Clyde Road exit ramp on the Princes Freeway. It takes approximately 45 minutes to travel to the campus from the Melbourne CBD, and 90 minutes in peak-hour traffic. Permit parking is offered to students and staff as well as coin-operated daily ticket parking for infrequent drivers. The Berwick train station is a four minute walk to the campus. Situated on the Pakenham line, trains run approximately every 30 minutes to and from the Melbourne CBD. An extensive range of services and programs are available to international students. The Monash University - Berwick is home to a young and thriving research community. Much of this research crosses the traditional boundaries of academic disciplines. The research projects undertaken at the campus vary greatly and cover many differenct aspects of communities including tourism, virtual communities, Australian history, viable democracies, volunteerism, regional development, community engagement and social inclusion. The Monash University - Berwick hosts the Tourism Research Unit (TRU) and the Animation and Visualisation Research Group (AVRG) and many other active research teams and individual researchers. The Berwick Campus Community Advisory Council will provide strategic advice to campus leadership concerning community needs, aspirations and perceptions that will inform the campus in developing its teaching, research and community engagement activities. Monash University - Berwick will provide linkages between the University and the community for the provision of advice and sharing ideas on local needs and development.
The Faculty of Business and Economics is the Monash University - Berwick largest faculty, with over 15,500 students on five campuses within Australia and two offshore. On the Berwick Campus, the faculty has over 1200 undergraduate and graduate students and an active research program. The Monash University - Berwick Business and Education Group (MUBBEG) has been established to expand and improve the activities that link the university and the local business and education communities. Berwick Library and Learning Commons, one of eight branch libraries of the Monash University Library, supports and resources the learning, teaching and research activities of staff and students at the university's Berwick campus. Applications such as word processing and spreadsheet applications are also available on most PCs. Because the number of computer workstations is limited users are requested to restrict their use of computers to study-related activities. There are a number of power points situated near desks for the convenience of library users with laptops. Monash University - Berwick wireless networking is available throughout the library and learning commons to staff and students of the university. Use of the network requires passwords. The Monash Union of Berwick Students, or commonly abbreviated as MUBS, is the official student union for students attending the Monash University - Berwick. The union offers several educational services and facilities and hosts many social events in the university campus. The union also oversights the organisation of clubs and societies within the campus. MUBS holds annual student social events such as an End of Year Ball, held every September and the Yarra River Boat Cruise at the end of Semester One.
