North Lakhimpur College established in 1952, has successfully carved its niche in the arena of higher education in Assam. Committed to raising standards of higher education, the College intends to equip the learners with sound theoretical knowledge, adequate practical exposure and develop in them the capacity to think. The founders aspired to enhance socio-cultural development of various ethnic groups, create scientific temperament, enhance employability of students and promote gender equality.
Immensely concerned about the welfare as well as the intellectual and ethical development of the students, the institution provides value education, coaching and remedial classes besides establishing forums for community development and extension activities, establishing Equal Opportunity Centre, Women’s Studies Centre etc. North Lakhimpur College is committed to raising standards of higher education in this part of North Eastern India and for us, offering high quality teaching is more than just a priority- it is our raison d’etre. The University Grants Commission has also conferred the status of College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) to this College in 2010.
North Lakhimpur College is situated at North Lakhimpur-Dist- Lakhimpur, Assam.At present North Lakhimpur College offers graduate level courses in Arts and Science in nineteen (19) subjects besides the self-financed B.C.A course. Based on the need, new courses at UG level have been introduced. Certificate and short term modular programmes are offered as value addition. Thrust has been given to relevant knowledge, skills, value addition and value based education leading to overall personality. There is very little scope for an affiliating college to develop new programmes as the academic authority rests in the hand of the affiliating University.
Despite this, North Lakhimpur College undertakes environmental survey for the need of new courses, subjects, combinations based on current trends, market and societal needs and student’s expectations. Introduction of new inter-disciplinary academic programmes namely P.G. Diploma in Disaster Management (under UGC’s Innovative Scheme) and Post B.Sc. Diploma in Plant Tissue Culture and Micropropagation (DBT’s Biotechnology popularization Scheme) are the results of such efforts. It provides Certificate and Diploma course in Herbal (Medicinal) Plantation, Information Technology, Repair and Maintenance of Consumer Electric Equipments, Human Rights and Gandhian Studies, Post B.Sc. Diploma in Plant Tissue Culture and Micropropagation, Disaster Management. To ensure that North Lakhimpur College maintains high standards of education in a student friendly manner, the authority takes feedback at regular intervals from the students and utilizes the data constructively.
North Lakhimpur College has a central library with rapidly increasing books and journals. It has two reading rooms one is for the boys and other is for the girls. There is a separate reading room for teachers. Besides this all the departments of the college has departmental Library. At present the library has 38,114 numbers of books, 7 national journals , 3 international journals, 16 periodicals besides having 7 daily news papers available to the users of the library.
