Satavahana University – Karimnagar was upgraded from a post-graduation college to a university in August 2008. The University first started as a post-graduation college in the year 1980 with two courses MA Economics and MCom. Gradually it grew and earned the status of a university. In the erstwhile Hyderabad State, Karimnagar had the distinction of starting the first Higher Secondary School in the year 1944-45. With a gap of eleven years the district had the distinction of starting the First Degree College in this region in the year 1956.
After passing of time i.e., two and a half decades the Satavahana University – Karimnagar, Institute of Post Graduate Studies was started with M.A. Economics and M.Com in 1980 under the direction of Sri K.S. Sharma, Sri V. Kondal Rao and Sri V. Rama Rao. In the academic year 1989-90, the Institute became the PG Centre of Osmania University, Hyderabad and subsequently in the year 1993 it was transferred to the administrative control of Kakatiya University, Warangal.
The postgraduate centre at Karimnagar of Kakatiya University was upgraded as Satavahana University – Karimnagar as per Act No. 29 of 2008 and GO.MS.No.160 dated: 07-08-2008 and the same was published in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette Part IV-B Extra Ordinary, Wednesday, September 24, 2008. Satavahana University – Karimnagar has presently eleven courses i.e., M.A. in Economics, English, Telugu, Urdu, Sociology, M.Com, M.B.A., M.C.A., M.Sc.(Chemistry), M.Sc.(Computer Science) and B.Pharmacy.
At present Satavahana University – Karimnagar is located in sprawling area of 42.2 acres at Left Flank of Manair Dam of Karimnagar district. Satavahana University – Karimnagar bring a paradigm shift from teaching and learning to social empowerment with emphasis on high quality value-based education with need-oriented education and training to become partners of national development process. Foster creativity in teaching, learning and research to build a knowledge base and promote quality initiative which can empower the human beings and develop human resources to meet the societal needs, so as to ensure a better quality of life.
Satavahana University – Karimnagar has established the necessary infrastructure required for imparting education. The central library provides students and faculty with books, journals, magazines etc. Extra curricular activities like indoor and outdoor games and various cultural activities are promoted by the university. The NSS Unit of the University College conducted a camp on the campus. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohd. Iqbal Ali, Registrar Prof. G. Laxmaiah,, University College Principal Prof. M. Komal Reddy, NSS Coordinator Dr. V. Ramesh, S.U, Programme Officer’s of S.U and volunteers were present.
Satavahana University – Karimnagar Placement cell and E-Plus club were inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mohd. Iqbal Ali. E-Plus club was started in association with The Hindu Daily. Mr. Srinivas Reddy and Mr. Dayashankar detailed the objectives of the E-plus Club.
