Image Infotainment Ltd. pioneered the thought by establishing Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai in 2004, providing holistic, advanced specialized education in various Digital Media disciplines. It began by offering full time Post Graduate Diplomas in 3D Animation, Visual FX and Game Development. The shortage of specialized Game Designers paved the way for the launch of Game Design curriculum in 2006. A survey among high school students by Image Infotainment Ltd during 2005-2006 revealed the students' awareness of Digital Media as an exciting career option, their eagerness to pursue a career in Digital Media and the desire for a Full time College Level Degree Program. To address this need, Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai launched 3 year Full time B.A. in Digital Media Degree programs in 2006 in 3D Animation, Visual FX, Game Design and Game Development.
Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai is the First Digital Media College in India which has obtained ISO 9001:2000 Certification. At ICAT, the prime objective is to provide excellent and comprehensive education in “Digital Media”. The Board of Academic Advisors consists of internationally renowned professionals from the field of Visual Effects, Animation, Game production and Academics. They continuously monitor and review the quality of the courses, right from the syllabus to how they are accomplished. Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai also follows an annual process of Course Monitoring for all courses. This examines how well the course has been delivered in the previous year/semesters and how it can be improved.

Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai aspires to provide high standard of education. It offers Under Graduate programs in association with Annamalai University as well as an internationally recognized degree, validated by the University of Wales, UK. The international validation enables overseas institutions such as ICAT to offer the University of Wales degree at an equivalent standard to the degree offered in Wales itself. Annamalai University programs are recognized by the Government of India and come under the purview of UGC and DEC. The University of Wales programs do not come under the purview of UGC / AICTE.
Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai has large spacious class rooms that can accommodate between 30 to 60 students. A digital projector connected to the instructor's system is also available in every classroom. ICAT has large spacious air conditioned Labs where every student works on an independent cutting edge PC with high-end graphic cards, large hard drives and equipped with all necessary software. The labs also offer numerous general-purpose software packages and tools.
Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai library offers a variety of information sources from textbooks and periodicals to international database and access to the Internet. Students can also access information from electronic sources including databases, full text journals, newspapers, abstracts and a host of global resources in the library. College also has institution membership of British Council Library and American Library. The seminar hall can accommodate approximately 200 – 250 students. The space is air conditioned and equipped with projector, sound system and internet connection. Hence suitable for conducting any seminars and workshops.
Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai has its own studio floor with Green/Blue Matte equipped with latest digital HD Camera, studio lights and accessories. The studio has an adjoining Post Production Lab. College has post production studio equipped with editing suit with digitizing facilities. Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai has number of art studios with drawing tables, Light Box, with facilities for live modeling and abundance of natural light essential for art environment. Design Studio with big tables, cutting mats and plenty of lights and space to move around is another essential part of ICAT. Miniature Studio is another essential learning environment for ICAT student pursuing design or Digital media. As this is where they can use all sorts of materials to create miniature models, sets, prototype, mock ups, with natural lights all around, working tables and sculpting tools to work with.
Image College of Arts, Animation and Technology – ICAT Chennai Student Lounge is a space for students to relax and socialize over break and play for fun with access to latest gaming consoles, home theatre, board games and also some place to seat and work together with friends. Canteen is the place where students wind up in groups and creative brilliance reflects. Canteen is not only for refreshment, it is also used to sit and write assignments, sometime just to talk, take peers opinion about the project that is going on or even the right place for someone starting a project to go for distributing survey forms as that is where maximum heads can be seen at one time.
