KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai was established in the year 1963, with rich donations from our founding father Suchishriman Karamshi J. Somaiya. It started with 3 years full-time diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering with intake of 40 seats per branch. The intake was increased to 60 per branch from the year 1966. To cater to the needs of employed students KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai started with 4 year diploma programmes in Electrical & Mechanical Engineering from September 1981. The Academic Autonomy was granted to us in 1994 under World Bank assisted projects. Now we are running full-fledged autonomous Full-Time and Part-Time Diploma Programmes.
KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai was started by Somaiya Vidyavihar. Somaiya Vidyavihar is one of the few education centers in India imparting education in almost all fields of life. Campus is like a deemed University humming with academic activities ranging from K.G to p.G level. The Somaiya Vidyavihar is diversified into four main disciplines namely vidyavihar, ayurvihar, tantravihar and sanskritivihar.KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai provides Diploma courses.

Any library is as good as it is utilized, which depends upon how well a patron knows the organization of the library. Having such a perspective, we have developed orientation programs for students as well as staff members, explaining the various means to exploit such potent resources. In order to make books available to a larger set of Somaiyites, 'Inter-Library loan' facility is provided.
One of the distinguishing features of a well endowed library is its subscription to Scientific and technical journals and magazines. Around half of these are International publications. The library also has subscription to Online Journal Database like IEEE and ASME.
The Alumni association shares the vision of making KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai, the best college, a college to be proud of. In this direction, the association has initiated steps to tap the expertise of its members to setup an effective career guidance cell and a placement cell. A further plan is to setup an NCC activity centre, complete with firing range is being considered. Further, the association is ready to collaborate with the college to guide students for various defense competitive examinations especially SSB interviews.
KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai has various huge computer Laboratories with more than 180 computer systems, interconnected with a Local Area Network. All latest computer systems with a high speed internet connection are available. Our laboratories are available for the students after the college hours for extra practice. KJ Somaiya Polytechnic - Mumbai has a well equipped Electrical laboratory containing all electrical equipments. Various Electronics laboratory with latest kits and all necessary equipments. A Chemistry laboratory with all necessary equipments and apparatus. The institute has a large well equipped drawing hall with specially designed drawing tables.
